If you’ve been to the site before, look around again. There’s a lot more info and we’ve got some crucial things working on the site. You’re now able to submit work for two juried exhibitions, one for students and one for everyone else. You can now register for the conference, reserve space for mold making workshops, and reserve a t-shirt. (They won’t be available until the conference, but if they run out, prepaid ones are already spoken for, so you know you’ll get one.)

Happy to say that panels and demos have worked out pretty much as we’d hoped, as coveted iron celebrities confirmed that they’d participate. If you haven’t looked at the lineup recently, look now. In any case, if you’re an artist working in iron, you’ll want to be in Hays, so register now and get your lodging lined up. See you there…

In particular, you’ll want to check out the updated pages for demos and panel discussions.

Also on tap in the next few days: We’ve just got the bugs worked out with banks and PayPal, so you’ll be able to register and pay online very soon, both for the conference in general and for special demos, t-shirts, and the like. It’s coming up soon – you’d better book a place to stay in Hays (with a conference attendees discount).

Of course, if you’re not on our email list yet, make sure you contact us, so we can keep you posted.

It’s just a few months away now. See you there!

OK, let’s see how this actually looks, with a bit of text, some imagery, etc. The new site is beginning to take shape, but we’ll need more text than I’ve currently got, though, so here’s some self-promotional tripe from Eric, the web designer (me):

For many years, I’ve operated under the auspices of Waldemar Pure & Applied Research, a mysterious transnational agency whose specialty is practically everything. I design websites, exhibition flyers & ephemera, books, and moving images, and I also do a variety of writing, editing, tutoring, and teaching. Past & present clients include CU Denver, West Side Books, Syracuse University Press, Tortilla Productions, Woodstock Library, the Turner Museum, and now the Western Cast Iron Art Alliance.

For web design, I tend to favor a site that provides a lot of avenues to explore, yet is structurally simple and easy to maintain. Much of the time, that includes using WordPress (an open source, secure design framework), as an understructure. This makes it fairly simple to generate and design intricate interlinked content, and also create spaces for conversation and social networking. If you, dear reader, need a site made, I can set up the whole thing for you, from concise, persuasive text, to compelling imagery, to design, programming, and SEO. I’m an artist (drawing, cinema, etc.), but this site is about iron, not me, so that’s another story to look into on your own, if you feel like it.

At the moment, what’s on my mind is generating enough text to put up an initial post, with an image, to see how this site is looking as I form and tweak the design and underpinnings. Leave a comment if you’ve got any thoughts…
